World Breastfeeding Week

Today starts World Breastfeeding Week!  I decided to hop on the bandwagon with many of my fellow birth photographers, and try my hand at some breastfeeding sessions.  I really love how they turned out.  My baby is 6 now, so that phase seems so long ago.  But I enjoyed breastfeeding my children so much.  Especially since I always got off to such a rocky start with it.  In fact with #1 I gave up around 3 months.  We just couldn’t sync up and I kept getting infections and plugged ducts.  However I breastfed longer and longer, and had fewer and fewer problems with each child.  The harder I tried to make it work, the more proud I was of my ability to give this to my babies. And with #4 we went up to 18 months.  That felt like such an amazing accomplishment to me!  Today breastfeeding is somewhat of a hot topic I hear.;)  Where to do it, how to do it, how long to do it, blah, blah, blah.  Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, and I don’t think it should be considered taboo in any way with regards to public display, or anything else for that matter.  Moms should feel free to breastfeed when and where their babies want and need to!

So enjoy these beautiful photos of some beautiful mamas who are proud and comfortable nursing their children at all ages (5 months to 18 months and counting), and in all sorts of places.  And let me know if you are interested in a breastfeeding session of your own!  Just like birth photography, it’s a beautiful way to document these young years that pass SO QUICKLY!
