born at home – Austin Birth Photographer

When Brooke and I first met, she wasn’t sure how much of her birth experience she wanted photographed. She did know that she wanted to preserve those first moments with her baby, as well as when baby met big brother Emerson. But the whole labor experience captured? She just couldn’t decide. So she asked me if I ever come across this indecision with my birth photography clients. I told Brooke that while I offer a “First Glimpse” package for those mamas who just want to preserve the moments after birth, not during, the majority of my clients (by a large margin) hire me to document the whole thing, in its entirety. The reason being most Mamas forget so much of what happens during their birth, and they want that visual reminder of how hard they worked, and how much love and support they received from their partner and birth team. Furthermore they then have a birth story to show their little ones as they grow up. What a treasure!

I know Brooke is glad she has these beautiful memories preserved forever. I too am so grateful she trusted me with this task, because her birth was beautiful and empowering. I am reminded of a quote by Judith Lothian when I look through her birth images – “Labor is hard, yes, but she is strong.”

Congratulations Andrus family on the birth of your adorable baby girl!
