The Best Birth Photos of 2017 | Leilani Rogers, Photographer

In many ways, 2017 has been my best year for birth photography and videography. Early in the year, I finally took a videography course – something I’ve been hoping to do for a couple years, now. Once the course was completed, I was off and running with my new Preserve Happy | Post Partum films… 2 minute short films documenting those first quiet moments cuddling your baby, establishing their first latch, doing skin-to-skin with Mom and Dad, and highlighting all of baby’s most adorable features: hands, feet, lips, nose, eyes. Then I began work on my first documentary, an in depth look at a day in the life of a breastfeeding mom, for the Public Breastfeeding Awareness Project. 2017 was also a very rewarding year. I placed in the International Association of Birth Photographers’s Image of the Year competition, Lenculture’s Portrait Awards, as well as ClickinMom’s VOICE Collection. Furthermore, one of my images was curated for an assignment with National Geographic’s Your Shot Community. As if that wasn’t enough, I won Austin’s Best Birth Photographer and Austin’s Best Baby Photographer in the Austin Birth Awards, I was named one of 2017’s Most Influential Photographer’s by Dear Photographer Magazine, and was a keynote speaker at the 2nd Off-Call Birth Photography Conference.

All these accolades warmed my heart, but nothing compares to meeting the families I do and telling their stories. It never ceases to amaze me that they invite me to be a part of one of their most sacred journeys. What an honor. It is that trust that allows me to capture them in their most vulnerable and raw moments with such beauty and accuracy.

Enjoy the highlights of 2017 in this short video. Thank you for your support!
